Chiropractic Care During Pregnancy

Chiropractic Care During Pregnancy

Hormonal and physical changes during pregnancy can be uncomfortable and even painful. So how can you maintain your health and comfort during this period while also ensuring your baby is at ease?

In honor of the just concluded Women’s Health Week, we’ll look at how chiropractic care can help you stay comfortable during these special 9 months.

Is Chiropractic Care Safe During Pregnancy?

All chiropractors receive training on how to adjust pregnant women, and some even specialize in prenatal and postnatal care. You can rest easy that your chiropractic care will be safe, comfortable, and holistic, with minimal chance for side effects.

Why Is Chiropractic Care Necessary During Pregnancy?

As your baby grows, your posture and pelvic bones change; your abdomen will begin to protrude and the curve of your back becomes more prominent. These changes can lead to a misaligned spine (subluxations) or joints, and can result in intrauterine constraint (restricted room for your growing baby.)

Chiropractic care realigns your spine and joints, which relieves pain and keep you and your baby healthy and comfortable. It can even make delivery easier.

What Are the Benefits of Chiropractic Care During Pregnancy?

1. Optimal Baby Positioning

Pelvic changes are common during pregnancy. Unfortunately, an imbalanced pelvis can lead to intrauterine constraint and increase in the chance of a breeched delivery and C-section.

By adjusting the pelvis and restoring balance (using the Webster technique), your chiropractor can ensure that your baby grows unrestricted and that delivery is smooth.

2. Good Posture

The extra weight carried primarily at the front of your body can curve your back and cause pain, strain, and poor posture.

Chiropractic adjustments can help you regain good posture.

3. Reduce Pregnancy Symptoms

Pregnancy can often mean unpleasant symptoms such as neck pain, joint pain, and nausea. Thankfully, consistent visits to your chiropractor can relieve these symptoms for a more pleasant pregnancy.

4. Improve the Delivery Experience

Regular chiropractic care makes delivery easier on both you and your baby. When your nervous system is functioning optimally, it can mean a reduced time spent laboring.

5. Post Pregnancy Boost

Chiropractic care is also believed to lessen the chances of postpartum depression, increase the production of milk, and enhance breastfeeding comfort.

At Knight Family Chiropractic we aim to help you throughout your pregnancy journey and afterwards as a mother. We offer an array of gentle and effective adjusting techniques and will tailor our treatments to meet your needs.
