5 Ways to Make the Most of Your Chiropractic Care

We all know that the human body is a complex machine. So it should come as no surprise to learn that chiropractic care is easily affected by what’s going on with other systems of the body. If you’ve got poor sleeping or eating habits, for example, you may not be getting the best results from your chiropractic care.

I regard the relationships with my patients as true partnerships. While I’m committed to assessing your chiropractic needs and determining the correct frequency and types of adjustments, your healing requires commitment on your part as well.

Here are five ways you can make the most of your chiropractic care:

  • Stretch and exercise – Make sure you’re consistently incorporating the stretches and exercises recommended by your chiropractor. It’s important to “do your homework” when a specific stretch and/or exercise is prescribed.

  • Eat well – This is no time to pig out at the drive-thru. Increase the amount of fruit and veggies in your diet; avoid sugar, and processed and junk foods. If you know you are sensitive to certain foods, avoid those as well. Losing those extra pounds will also benefit your chiropractic care outcomes.

  • Stay hydrated – You know the myriad health benefits of drinking water; you can also include chiropractic in that group now. Strive to drink half your weight in ounces of water each day (for example, if you weigh 160 pounds, try to drink 80 ounces of water daily).

  • Sleep well – Plenty of quality rest is important. Sleep on a firm mattress, lying on your back or side. Click here for some additional tips. Using the correct pillow can also make a big difference.

  • Move your money – You may be surprised to learn that your wallet or handbag could hinder your healing. Men, move your wallet from your back pants pocket, especially when sitting. Sitting on your wallet can cause strain on your lower back. Women, alternate shoulders for carrying your bag and keep the load as light as possible.

Paying attention to what may seem insignificant in the course of daily life can go a long way to maximizing your doctor’s care beyond the chiropractor office walls. Bad habits can stall the healing that’s begun in the chiropractic office, whereas healthy ones can offer optimal results.
